Quantum Technologies in Minecraft
A class where children discover quantum technologies by building them and trying them out themselves in Minecraft. No formulas, no prior knowledge.
Quantum computers are talked about today as the technology that will change data security, the search for new medicines and artificial intelligence. It sounds like a university subject. Reading about it really is hard - but trying it out is surprisingly easy once you have it in front of you and can get your hands on it.
Children get the Minecraft they already know, and inside it a world where they can handle the essentials of the field: quantum communication, quantum search algorithms, and the methods used today in the discovery of new medicines.
These are the real principles, only moved into a setting where you can see what is going on. A child comes away with an understanding their classmates will not meet until university.
What will children learn?
- What a quantum computer is - and why it computes differently from the one at home.
- How quantum communication works - and why it is safer than today's.
- What quantum algorithms are - a search that is faster than the classical one, for instance.
- Where quantum technologies are used - data security, new medicines, materials, artificial intelligence.
- How a scientist thinks - try it, measure it, compare, correct it and try again.
- Board games with a quantum theme - children play them during the class.
- English vocabulary from the field.
